Reinstall going very wrong at some point...

Question:

when i reinstall xp so it wont save files and programs will it wipe my partition as well with all my files or will it leave it be?


I have my hard drive partitioned and all saved files are on my D drive..

If you do a repair installation of the current XP installation, it should leave the files in place. Back up anyway of course. I did this to a researcher's Serial Attached SCSI machine about a month ago with the only hiccup being that I needed a floppy with the controller drivers. I am still alive. :^) A few patches later and the machine was just like new.

Would reinstalling also get rid of these problems?

when it was finally done, it ended up being 680 errors, that normal?




Do you think there is any coming back from this too or should I just go ahead with the reinstall?

Is the 'deep scan' software recommendable ?
It wouldn't be doing its job if it didn't tell you you had lots of problems that need fixing...
The registry can quite happily be full of unused data, but that just it, its unused.
So it takes up some space ? its not harming anything...

The second one is treating cookies as bad, some may be, but most are not...

For an Antivirus, get AVG free, it works fine, as long as you keep it automatically up to date...

If you are reinstalling Windows on top of where windows was before, it will delete all that is in the "C:\Windows" folder, maybe even only the "\System32" folder.
This is so it has the correct files, and not modified ones, to boot up.

The best method is to get all your 'important' data onto another partition, ie "D:\" like you already seem to have done.
Then, reinstall Windows onto the old "C:\" partition, and make sure to format the partition.
This will get rid of many of the bogus 'errors' the free software found...

Free security software is an easy way to install malware on your PC.
I only trusted AVG after having used it for over a year at work without any problems...

full ack, it's a pain in the [wherever] to reinstall all the drivers for all the hardware. You could try some of the programs that backup all the drivers and reinstall them after a Windows reinstall. Heard good things about Driver Magician, might be worth a try and there's a freeware version around -> http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/d..._Lite_39037_p/

Reinstalling might make an unbootable system bootable but would not get rid of any alleged nasties.

Oooh good find... This would work really well with Acronis Universal Restore... says the guy that doesn't have to build images anymore for his job (cause today was his last day!)

I ended up deleting the C partition, then bringing it back and installing windows on it.

it feels so nice having a fresh fast computer again!!!!!

Make the most of the fast system while it is still fast
The more programs you install, the slower it gets.
Install MS Office, and thats enough to double the Windows startup time...
