Lets just say that I am downloading gentoo universal cd as a test and getting aroumd 1o megabits per second. The dg834g v2 router says 13104 kbps down 1214 up. DL took less than 10min

Of course there is a problem with the line. It is either very fast or doesn't work at all. During the day today, I was mostly off the net. Since 2 hrs ago it is fine.
