Did you ever hear back from them?
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

I wonder how a hacker could take advantage of this...

Time Warner didn't even acknowledge I existed. Big surprise I know.

          Earthlink had this to say:

          Thank you for contacting us.

We understand your concern regarding the security information over Time Warner network.

In order for us to adequately assist you with this issue, we request that you call our EarthLink Cable support at
          (800) 817-5508 (Mon-Fri 6am - 12am, Sat-Sun 8am - 7pm PST).

          We apologize for any inconvenience.

For any further assistance, please feel free to contact us. We are here to assist you.
I would post the email I wrote, but it's a novel and would probably bore everyone but Helevitia.

Oh, EarthLink. Yeah, their support really, really, really sucks. Every once in a while you'll get a decent guy, who may give you his extension.

Well I recently experienced this too.. my router picked up WAN ip address 192.168.100.33 .. I called the ISP and complained, the looked into it, and checking the lights on the modem, a terayon jobbie, the cable light was flashing, indicating that it was not able to connect. He then told me after putting me on hold briefly, that the modem, if not able to connect, would dish out that IP.. how bloody clever is that??
So it was not some moron plugging the cable into the wrong port, it was the modem not being able to connect...I have then since had my cable re-pulled from the main feed, which made it work somewhat concistantly.
