Looks like Jan. 5th is the release date now.

They're not saying much about it, but apparently Dell's forthcoming 30-inch 3007WFP display is a) real, and b) actually going to be announced during CES according to their site (hence their "check back on Jan 5, 2006" message), and c) has better specs as Apple's 30-inch Cinema display (those being same 2560 x 1600 resolution, but 700:1 contrast ratio over 400:1, 11ms over 16ms, and 400cd/m2 brightness over 270). Frankly we're a little bummed they're gonna miss the holiday rush with this one, but somehow we have a feeling a 30-inch display, Dell or not, is still one of those things we'd have to pony up for ourselves.[Thanks, Matt and Chet]Update: for all those interested, the 3007WFP user manual has indeed surfaced. And it does quite in fact show the unit as having a SD / MMC / Memory Stick / SmartMedia / CompactFlash card reader and HDCP support. Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

The new xbox requires that all games support 720P at a minimum. I'm not sure if 1080i is a "required" resolution. 1080p doesn't seem to be supported at all.

The old xbox could run all the way up to 1080i but only "required" 480i as a minimum for any game. Enclave, one of my favourite xbox games ran really well in 720p. And the Matrix game supported 1080i, but it looked like an upconvert from a lower res, not a natively rendered resolution.

So basically it come down to which game you're playing. Try renting Enclave and see how it looks on your screen with the scaler turned off.

$2199. Ouch! to rich for my blood. I'm really interested in the 2405 refresh though.

First review. Pre-production model had problems with brightness uniformity, but Dell states they are fixing that for shipping monitors. You need a dual link dvi card to run it, so basically you will need close to $3000! for the monitor and video card. Personally, I rather buy two Dell 24in monitors for $1700~.

I think FiringSquad mentioned that you need a GeForce 7800 GTX 512 MB or an ATi X1800XT 512MB to game at natural resolution with smooth frame rates. I'm sure you'd need the highest end SLI/CrossFire rig to get decent high frame rates w/ eye-candy on.

Yeah, but it's native resolution (2560x1600) downsamples nicely to 1280x800, which I wouldn't mind playing. My 20" widescreen is 1680x1050, not a resolution that lends itself to downsampling very well.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I'd love to see some pictures of the downsampled resolution. Even so, Buying the 24" or two, seems the better deal
