[H] has long since lost its flavor to most MURCers, so showing off their results won't sway a lot of opinion here. They've gone the way of Tom's Hardware...

Though HT will give better results in multitasking that a single core AMD, most results that I've seen don't give the P4 as large of an edge as [H] posted.

Hands up who runs seti or someother app in the background quite happily while gaming on athlons

like I said adjust your cpu priorities and that 62% figure is going to change a lot.

But then your encode or whatever you are doing is never going to finish. I've worked on my buddies A64 3000+ a lot and it just does not stand up to my P4 when I'm doing any multitasking.

Since this is a 'system upgrade' thread I'll stick to that - if you aren't doing any multitasking, screw the P4 and go AMD; you will NOT be disappointed, especially on the gaming end of things.

3200+ venices are nice and cheap, and really good OC'ers. (And really good stock as well).

Well I am pretty sure the P4 would multitask more effiecently, how much difference it would make would tricky to determine.

If [H] were not so half arsed, they could of put the game in a continuous loop and see how long the the encode took, that would be an interesting result

Quite a tough call at the moment...ultimately, it will all depend on the funds I have available, if I have enough cash I'll go dual-core AMD, if not, I'll go HT P4.
