Upgraded Motherboard = New Windows Licence

Microsoft recently made a change to the licence agreement saying that a new motherboard is equal to a new computer, hence you need to purchase a new Windows licence.

Ofcourse it applies to OEM versions only, still isn't that nice. Generally we used to pair a Windows OEM with an ordinarry floppy drive in the past or some smaller hardware component, after that the license agreement changed for only with a new system and now they tie it to the motherboard.

I think that's perfectly fine for OEM licenses. And it's not as if it would change anything in practice.

At this point it doesn't chanage much, the step to "with new system only" changed much here in licensed OS software sales.
Usually it's companies that buy licensed software in Romania because the risk and penalties for them are higher. With the posibility to bundle it with a small hardware component the piracy rate for private individuals and small businesses began to decrease.

M$ really needs to follow a policy that reflects the level of income in each country, or groups of countries.

I'm sure this won't affect people who build their own machines. It means if you buy a machine from dell with OS included, you can't carry over the OS to the new machine. Still sucky, but not as sucky as that.

If you are like me and are running on an OEM edition of OS then you are screwed.
