I've used that router (made the same mistake!) and gone for a ~£24 modem /w single port router from Ebuyer. Both work like a charm, and setup is so easy it makes your head spin.

Nothing, just not sure that there's an aftermarket firmware for it. And based on how piss-poor everyone's OFFICIAL firmwares are...

I really can't find anything wrong with my WRT54G's stock firmware. It's not exactly feature-rich, but it's stable and hassle-free.
There's an Opera in my macbook.

Haven't run Bit Torrent on it then, have you?

The stock firmware caches IP addresses for 5 days. Yes, 5 days. And there's NO mechanism for removing old entries from the cache once it's full. So once it's full, you just can't get to any new sites, anywhere on the Internet, at all. Period. The only "fix" is hard-resetting the router, or just WAITING for it to crash and reset itself.

            Ick.

Any thoughts for either of these?

Not a fan of linksys Wi-Fi cards. They tend to have much weaker signal strengths than competitors.

What are your choices for modems?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

                    I was looking at this.

What WiFi card would you recommend?

Since you already have a router/firewall, how about this?
Zoom adsl bridge modem. doesn't do anything but connect your router to your phone line.

Seems like this is getting to be a hard product type to find

I would be interested in modem recomendations too.
We are still using our 6 year old Alcatel ADSL 1000 modem.

Cheers for the input Chuck. I can't find that modem here in the UK. - I've looked on ebay and the popular shop sites. It is on ebay.com though

I haven't seen one here from anyone I trusted either.
They all say "one left" or "a few left, order now". Yeh right.
I'm guessing Zoom stopped making them.

I wonder why a plain dsl modem to ethernet device is getting so hard to find.
They all seem to be USB, or contain routers & such redundancies.

I wonder if there would be compatibility problems with a modem made for us on uk phone lines.

As long as the modem supports PPPoA it shouldn't be an issue.
I think i will grab this modem above.
