What I was getting at is that XP is better on marginal hardware than 2000 is. Once you turn off the eyecandy, of course.
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

Well, I seem to remember his computer only supports SIMM (he had bought more ram a LONG time ago but then we found out it didn't work, so it ended up in my old P3 [which is still in use and has a G200 ], this was of course before he bought a car and became extremely stingy with his money, hence him still using a P3-550

I would prefer it if he could stick with a windows-based picture viewer - I did look at that XP image viewer, but: "A computer system with at least 256 Mb of RAM and a Pentium III or better CPU is required. For best performance, 512 Mb of RAM and a Pentium 4 or better CPU is recommended" ... so yeah...

      Anyone have any SIMM?

Also, what kind of speed differences would he find if he say got another 128mb ram + winXP vs. sticking with just his current 128 and going back to ME? (turning off all eyecandy of course)

A sidenote to make things more complicated - sometime after vista and ut2k7 come out I will probably be purchasing a new computer myself and might sell this one to him cheap, but this is of course almost a year down the road... so it might be best if he doesn't invest too much into his current comp

P3 with SIMMs? Hmmm...I doubt it (even if it is theoretically possible - if one would use very early P2 board with P3 - but it would run on 66Mhz bus)

You you can get any more details on his computer/mobo you can use the product selector wizard @ Kingston.com to find out what type of RAM it uses and what your upgrade options are.
