XP SP2 enables PAE regardless how much RAM you have. I have 1GB and it's enabled. It's only really required when you install more than 4GB, not sure why they made that change...

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Hard to use a Intel chip on an AMD board

Plus I'll only have a 939 socket board, so I'm hoping I can get a nice dualcore 939 CPU for less then $400 next year

We'll see. It's supposed to be coded for the next DirectX. Vista will have two DirectX packages - it's new one, and a separate one that is backwards-compatible with all the old DX stuff. So you'd have to backport the new DirectX before Halo2 would run.

The problem with XP is it will only address 4GB of ram, plus it's onyl 32 bit
So on one here is using windows xp pro 64bit?
That has no problems addressing 4GB+ of ram.

And its well tested and stable

Maybe this will be the same as Vista.

To be honest I'm excited about all the visuals that vista is bringing, but I feel they don't really need to use up all the page size and ram and stuff...

XP was redicious... wanting 512MB for smoothness, and a few years later we need at least 2GB... like wtf...
XP was released in October of 2001, Vista won't be released until 2007.
I dunno about you but to me, especially in the computer world, that is a long time, and I am surprised we are not at the 2GB+ already.

Just goes to show that instead of be more efficient in our use of resources we've further adopted the philosphy of "hey we've got it, so why not use it". Which is fine in some cases, but it should be exception, not the rule.

As a programmer I'm just as guilty as the next at not writting software as efficiently as possible. It's too easy to take the shortcuts. That's the problem. As a whole, programmers have become a well and truly lazy bunch. Sure we make advancements in terms of what is possible, but we've failed to maintain an equal pace in making those advancement as optimized and resource friendly as possible.

Sure 2GB should be the norm now, but it shouldn't be the norm in terms of what is required.
