a new release of my favourite file compressor WinRAR 3.60 beta 1 incorporates multi-threaded compressing, and it's a good deal faster on my Hyperthreading cpu, so it probably is even a lot faster on machines with 2 cores. atm only multi-threaded for RAR compression, hopefully multi-threaded ZIP support will be added too.

And I thought the slow part of compressing and decompressing files were the HD accesses.

Great feature, just did some benchmarks and it's between 20-40%. faster. Only one downside all cores are at 100% now .Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI
