I think I'd either opt for the 15" or wait and see what the non-Pro lineup looks like.

Oh it's definitely a slick piece of hardware. My hesitation would be related to the price tag. My next notebook will definitely be a MacBook of some kind, but I couldn't justify a 17" at this point for everyday use and for dev work I could get a nice desktop linux rig for the price (given there's no word on the new pro Mac desktops yet).

17" widescreen displays are just too big for a laptop. Unless you plan to use it as a desktop replacement and rarely travel with it.

Looks like it's designed to compete directly with the Mac Book Pros.

I'll bet that there'll be a 17" version coming out soon too.

Hmm... I'd consider getting a Mac Book Pro if I ever went back to school. Bootcamp makes it so there's no reason not to. (aside from price)

update, almost have the boss considering the 17" for me.

my g5 powermac is also getting long in the tooth, and if the speed tests are anything to go by, with a 7200rpm drive, it could nicely give me the needed mobility to go to customers, and replace my desktop.
