Firewire HD and PCIE card?

I've sold lots of WD drives, both internal and external, and I like them a lot. I've not sold any of the "My Book" versions but I would assume them to be good.
As for the FireWire card, I wouldn't buy a FireWire card that didn't support FireWire 800. Also, Dell's price isn't so good. I've sold SIIG FireWire 800 PCIe cards for around the same price or less, but in Canadian dollars. Simply put, they're charging too much for the card. I'd shop around on that item.P.S. You've been Spanked!

There's also one without the DV software.
And one without the DV software and with FW 800.
Are either of those good prices? Buying them off the manufacturer's site costs 25% more.

I really want to find one with 2 of each port.
Added:
So one can connect a Firewire 400 device to an 800 port with an appropriate wire/adapter. Hmm. Now to find one cheap.Last edited by High_Jumbllama; 8 May 2006, 17:25.

I don't know of one with two ports of each.
I think that the one without DV software is the one that I recently sold to a friend.
My cost on it now is about $110 CAD but I could have sworn that I paid less for it about a month ago (closer to $89 CAD).
Maybe the price went up, I'd have to check our records.P.S. You've been Spanked!

I just ordered it. I've been fighting the urge to buy something like this but seeing the HD price and finally a PCI express interface card even though no external Serial ATA hooked me.
Added:
I remember that with USB the bandwidth is shared typically between each pair of ports and that using one at 1.1 speeds brings the other down so they share 12mbps. Does this happen at all for firewire or just on certain cards?Last edited by High_Jumbllama; 8 May 2006, 19:19.

I looked at the link for the cable you're using, and my first guess is that your adapter is not giving you power. I wish the picture were better, but it looks like a 4-pin, which does NOT transmit power, unlike the 6 & 9, which do.
Pinouts, and pictures of connectors, here: http://pinouts.ru/Slots/ieee1394_pinout.shtmlGigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

It is also plugged into the wall and it looks like a six pin cable as does the port on the card.
I'll get a better chance to check it when I get home today. I was just checking it quickly while home for lunch. I just have no experience with Firewire yet except for a DVD burner at work which worked fine the instant I plugged it in..
Edit:
I set Device Manager to view by connection and removed everything down to the card and let it redetect on boot. It worked.Last edited by High_Jumbllama; 31 May 2006, 15:18.
