We have two laptops; a Dell D620 (Duo T2300, Panasonic DVD-/+/RAM/DL burner) and an old Dell Latitude 1ghz (P-III, same burner).

I'm still shocked at how well that old Latitude is holding up; great for OO2, gen. purp. browsing etc, and with the Linksys WPC54GS PC card & XP Pro it does wireless nicely. With the Panasonic 4460 battery it even has 'lungs'

Just ordered one (white, but with 120gig hd, 1 gig RAM, since it'll be my only computer), should arrive in a little more than a week. I'm quite excited, since it will be my first mac, and after more than a year with just a borrowed laptop with 14gb hd, CD read only drive (sucks) and intel celeron (the old one).

I'll write about it in a couple of days

            Wow

Got mine yesterday, and I am very very impressed. I am starting to understand why Apple can't be directly compared with Windows PC's (don't know if and when Windows will find a place on my Mac )

It may not have the fastets Graphics Card, but it is so amazingly easy to use that you don't need any Games for it, just playing and working is fun by itself. I wonder how long this enthusiasm of mine will hold, but I have never ever been so happy with a Computer before. It was pure joy from receiving and opening the package up to writing this.

And it is way better than the G4 iBook, which a friend of mine owns. Lots of nifty little features and things that make you feel happy and astonished.

But as you may have figured by now, this is not a very objective review, so I'll stop. But I can only recommend this machine

Oh, just more up to date, and also more responsive (don't know about faster, but i guess so). An integrated iSight camera, a nice little remote (no rf, just ir, but oh well) which uses like an ipod, with nicely animated menues on the screen of the macbook (like Windows Media Center or ATI's solution, only much much more simple and intuitive)

For me, with just a small stereo with a broken CD-Player, it is great, like a portable hometheater system, and a nice one at that

                edited for spelling

PS: The display is a bit too reflective, but in the right light it is amazing

Yeah my Toshiba laptop from work has the reflective screen... it's a little hard to get used to.

One more question Topha, if I can ask: how long does it last on batteries? (I'm especially interested in available time while using reasonably/very low display brightness, doing typicall office tasks (well...mostly writing, etc.))

Supposedly 5 to 6 hours, but I haven't really testet it that way yet. But I will check out how long it lasts on batter while watching DVD's today

Give me few days and I'll do some writing on battery though

I got an email from Apple saying if you get a Macbook, you can get a nano for free after rebate...tempting
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Had it running on battery all afternoon, copying files over wlan from my old loan laptop. Worked at least 4, maybe 5 hours, didnt time it though. Had it playing music all the time, except fro when I watched DVD for a while.

So I guess 5 to 6 hours when doing low light writing should be no problem

GT98: Unfair, I had to pay my Nano. But then we don't get as temtping offers very often here in europe (and I don't get apple newsletters )

I ordered my Video Ipod with my student discount, thus why I get it..its the first time they offered something really tempting to me. I think I get one, but I'm going to England in September and just shelled out big bucks for a Dell E1705 and then gpt Nikon D50...need to pay that off first
