Do you have the name of the sodick dealer.

    Nicram

Can you program a ls120 to emulate any type of floppy.

Seems Mode 3 drives show up in Froogle easily enough....

I'm closer to the source (Chicago) & know your pain.

Last year I did get a couple of Floppy drives for Mazak CNC machines and I was able to get just the drive (new) for around $100~$200 ??? Might be closer to $100.

I’ll check the paperwork and get back to you. If I can be in any way of assistance, let me know. Don’t be shy.

BTW, did you ever hear about CNC MiniFile?

It hooks up via tape reader, internal.

Now, this is the most popular drive used in Mitsubishi controlers (like Mazak CNC is one of them) and the price was $144.90 USD.

The old dive model was FD-235HG .

I'll post the picture a bit later.

All this talk about floppy drives makes me a little sad, as manufacturers seem to be deliberately sabotaging the market in order to kill floppies entirely. The last half-dozen boxes of floppy disks I've purchased over the last five years, both name-brand and store-brand, suffer from the same malady: they can only be written to two or three times before they start throwing "disk not formatted" errors. Boot floppies? Forget it. I can usually use them ONCE. Then when I try to reformat as a system disk I get "bad Sector" failures.

Obviously the manufacturers are cutting WAYYY back on quality control. I still have floppies that were made in the early '90's that are still at least usable.

A sign of the times, I guess. (sigh)

Here's one that supports Mode 3, and it is available from an Australian vender for $15:

                    Worth a try!

Can't go wrong even if it doesn’t work. It's only 15 bucks!
Let me know if it works.

Just in case if there is a need for it, and for any of you guys, let me know if I can help you in locating parts or dealers in the Midwest area.
                      Good luck.

You are a good man ND66.
I really don't need one myself, I was just trying to help a business associate. He has since had his drive refurbished, so he's good at the moment.

You all are very helpful ... thank you

1 ... I will purchase the mode 3 flloppy drive suggested by gt40.

2 ... the computer in my machine is a NEC PC9801UV and the drives are FD1135 made by I am pretty sure Nippon Denki.

3 ... My local sodick agent is sending me a couple of defunct drives and if step 1 does not work I will forward these to USA to be refurbished.

4 ... My machine is working allright at the moment but I cannot at this time have the machine come to a stand still because of a floppy drive.

5 ... I am trying to change my business from a contract toolmaker to producing products off my own moulding machines, as the industry has been bought to its knees by inports.
My income over the last few years has got progressivly worse and to change the business around I have a very tight budget and as the banks are not impressed with the manufacturing industry, so I am financing my self, hence the concern about upgrading the machine at this time if it goes down, approx 10000 dollars, all for the sake of a floppy drive ... thank you very much for your concern and help.

                            All the best, Batt

That drive I listed should have a jumper(s) on the back the change the operation to Mode 3.
We've been hit pretty hard as well in the auto manufacturing industry, but I've been lucky enough to have customers in various other sectors. In fact the automotive work I do get has been predominately from Japanese car makers.
