While this may be true for most people, some of us just, you know, have it.

Bios update program is Afudos BIOS update tool V2.21 which explains why your updates didn't work. Lucky you didn't fry the board.
If that's the case, then their website is on some serious crack:

Sure enough, Afudos worked. Odd that Asus's own website specifically told me to use AWDFlash for my board.

I'm currently runing BIOS ver 0503.

We'll see how it pans out, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I was just brainstorming when I mentioned it as a possibility.

How could you not know that you had an AMI bios?

It's like the first thing you see after POST!

It was about 2 years ago that I built an Asus/P4 based PC and saw AMI mentioned as the bios maker on first boot. I was blown away. Talk about ole skule! AMI was the best in the 386/486 days. Then they almost disappeared. I'm glad that they are back. If only for nostalgic reasons.

            ...

About 12 years ago when I was first getting into building computers I was an avid reader of the Asus Usenet newsgroup. I think it was alt.comp.periphs.mainboards.asus. Anyway, something like that. I'm sure that you can find it if you look for it. That newsgroup, by far, was the best resource I ever found for troubleshooting motherboard problems. The guys who used to post regularly on there were hard core. They knew how to fiddle with their bios and how to troubleshoot and identify all sorts of weird problems.

I don't know if that newsgroup is still active. I haven't checked it in years. But It might be worth your while to check it out and make a post about your troubles there. They might have some advice for you.

Also, I've seen a lot of enthusiast websites get setup to cater to specific CPUs and chipsets, and sometimes even specific motherboard models. Try to find a site with forums that caters to your specific mobo config. You may get some specific advice there. All you'll be able to get her is general troubleshooting. But if there's a known issue/work around, none of us here would know about it.
            P.S. You've been Spanked!

Not an excuse! You saw it every time you pressed delete to enter setup!

Every 1337 h@xor I know turns off the Splash screen so they can see the POST messages, etc.

Hey, regardless, Asus should know what flash utility goes with which board. If they had their shit together, flashing wouldn't have been an issue. It would also NOT have been an issue if AsusUpdate would actually install in my machine. The way I see it, they're 0 for 2.

yeah, the a8r-mvp is in lower case and the other two to are capitalized. your grammer could be cleaned up too.

I did, but when I kept resetting the BIOS and such, it would default to on.

Honestly, I've only ever flashed with AWDFlash before, so I didn't think to question whether or not it was the right flash utility to use.

Sorry, dumb mistake, I copied and pasted the wrong one. I ran th a7n8x deluxe for 3+ years, so at a glance, that's what i copied and pasted without thinking about it.
