Google to hire 1,000 in Mich.
The Detroit News
Internet giant Google Inc. announced today that it's hiring 1,000 people over the next five years to staff an office in the Ann Arbor area, providing a much-needed boost to southeast Michigan's sagging job market.
"It's going to be a blockbuster deal," James Epolito, chief executive officer of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., told The Detroit News late Monday. "We have been working closely with Google for a long time on this. This is a major deal."
Google plans to open an office for its Google AdWords unit, the company's main advertising vehicle and the central piece of its business model.
AdWords allows companies to advertise to Web surfers who use specific search words on Google. The advertisements pop up along with search results.
