Now, if you want bigger speakers with no sub that sound damned good for the price, the Paradigm Titan is something to look at, but you will still spend over $200 for the pair.

If we're talking about PC speaker systems...the best 2.1 systems around at the moment are the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 and the Altec Lansing MX-5021. I have the latter and have compared it to a friend's Promedia.
Basically, it goes like:
Klipsch - better sub, more highs (but too bright for my taste)
Altec - better mids (satelites have two mid-range drivers), more balanced sound IMO
The Klipsch is about $149 and the Altecs a little less, about $130.
I have not heard anything good from Logitech.

My local HiFi guy here has a pair of Wilsons very similar to the Alexandria II's for only $35k.
If I got new COMPUTER speakers I would buy a pair of Behringer MS40's. http://www.behringer.com/MS40/index.cfm?lang=ENG - a multimedia speaker with built in DAC and at a reasonable price.Q9450 + TRUE, G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2, GTX 560, ASUS X48, 1TB WD Black, Windows 7 64-bit, LG M2762D-PM 27" + 17" LG 1752TX, Corsair HX620, Antec P182, Logitech G5 (Blue)

I actually just use a set of Sennheiser HD497 headphones right now, which sound pretty good. I am just sensitive to crappy sounding speakers.
Perhaps what you should have said, Az, was that you think that's more than you are willing to spend.. "overpriced" implies that they are not worth what they are charging for them.

They are older and still of higher build quality than most newer speakers. They are in fairly good condition, I can get you pictures if you want.Q9450 + TRUE, G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2, GTX 560, ASUS X48, 1TB WD Black, Windows 7 64-bit, LG M2762D-PM 27" + 17" LG 1752TX, Corsair HX620, Antec P182, Logitech G5 (Blue)

Hey, I've got those & still use them too!
Jesterzwild, you can't go wrong on just a shipping cost (and a few beers for |Mehen|).
You'll be happy... .

Yes I listen to music on my computer, but generally speaking, I don't do so the entire or even majority of the time I'm on it. The majority of the time I'm listening to music is through my main stereo unit and speakers.Originally posted by KvHagedornThink about it.. you sit at your computer for how many hours per day? And you listen to music there? And you think $30 is what you should spend?
I don't need a set of speakers that costs any more than $30-50 for the usage they will see. Right tool for the job and all that.
Thanks to those who offered helpful recommendations and even those who offered some pricier options for me/us to drool over (while not assaulting my decision to stay on the cheap side). Yeah az has it right, though to be unfair, it was only directed at one particularly unhelpful person
Edited that last bit of my previous post for clarity.
But yes, grateful for the offer from Mehen. Again, thanks guys.Last edited by Jessterw; 24 August 2006, 14:52.“And, remember: there's no 'I' in 'irony'†~ Merlin Mann

That's right, dump on me again (as usual.)
I used real speakers for awhile on my computer, with a mini receiver (until the receiver broke.) Gaming with that setup was frighteningly awesome.. a whole new experience. I was trying to get you to expand your viewpoint.
At the $30 price point, it's pretty much all such poor sound quality stuff, that starting a thread about it is like asking for recommendations on whether to eat at McDonald's or Burger King today.. it's only worth about 5 seconds of your time to decide which piece of crap to buy.

So? Burger King is less bad. Not all people on MURC are rich singles
