Shut down problems w/W98-W98SE are all over the web. Its a Microsoft problem. I have tried Asus and Abit boards and prefer the Asus. I always forget about the MOBO when it is always stable like the P2B. Thats a good thing. THe Bh6 caused me many hours of problems.
    Jammrock get me a board ! P3B-F I'll send you the $$......

Chris: true, true. I just got my WD 7200RPM 18Gig in the mail, installed it and now use it as my primary drive. It is so much faster than my Maxtor 5400RPM, simply unbelievable.

        LAMFDTK,

So you want one, too. It costs about $128 plus shipping. I have found one little quirk with my P3B-F. When I restart the computer it hangs during POST. But if you restart it again it work perfectly. Too weird. I am going to send out an email to ASUS and see what they say. Otherwise the board is a dream. It takes a bit to get used to their new GUI (it is like the Pheonix BIOS interface now, which kind of sucks), but you can tweak every little detail about the motherboard from the BIOS. It takes about 15 minutes to run through all the options. If anyone else is interested in getting a P3B-F send me an email.

Thanks Chuck I'll let you know.

Neo, I know ATA/66 is not much (if at all) faster than ATA/33 but it I can't see it being worse, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of futureproofing

            Nice to hear it Neo

BTW, how the hell did you get a PII 400 running at 532MHz?! Did you increase the voltage in stages? I sound suprised 'cos the first time I overclocked a Celery 300A to 450MHz, it corrupted my Win98 registry and I had to reformat !! Is you system reliable?

              Cris H,

The memory is the key... It's not the processor. If you are only running PC100SDRAM, then you can only OC to a certain level before your memory cannot keep up. I can only run my PC100SDRAM @ 129Mhz. I have just purchased some PC133HSDRAM but cannot use it until my BE6 gets here due to ABIT following Intel's design specs.

Chris H, check out this thread:

                http://forums.gagames.com/forums/For...ML/000214.html

This is the lot of my plight with the P2 400, right now it runs 100% stable, no corruption. No glitches, for all intents and purposes *perfect*. Good luck with your processor, give me a shout if you need help!

Another limiting factor in overclocking is luck of the draw as to cache speed. Remember that you are also overclocking the cache on your processor. Some can take it - some cannot.
This is especialy true with the full speed celeron cache.

Just getting back to the original posts... this is the reply I got from ABIT UK:

"What is the source of this information?
According to Intel's data sheet on the 440BX chipset, it supports a
"100/66MHz Memory Interface". I therefore find it extremely unlikely that
this "problem" has been addressed on the BE6.

                      ABIT UK"

                      Cheers,

                      Steve

I've replied back asking if they're gonna do anything about it... should hear soon, hopefully.

It's going from bad to worse with you - your board wont to 133FSB, now your BE6 may not OC...

                          Cheers,

Argh! I need a drink or two - actually I don't drink, but I'm willing to start. - Naw not realy. I've been through worse than this before. I'm thinking back to a time when we had gotten our first SCSI based system - 386/20 - Adaptec AHA-1429 (not a or b or c). And our OS - SCO Xenix 2.3.2 (only to find out it didn't support SCSI - had to wait 5 months for the GT port that had SCSI drivers in it...) That really sucked.

So, I guess I've learned a little patience over the years. Been at this for 'bout 13 going on 14 years professionaly.

I emailed ABIT, and this is their response:

We could find nothing on the website about be6 being stable at 133MHz but
did find a mention of 133MHz memory being intended for the camino(820)
                                chipset.

                                ABIT UK...
