I'd go for an AMD 4x4 board with two X2's then upgrade to a pair of X4's (= 8 cores) when they come out.

At any rate the day of 'home supercomputers' with multiple virtualized terminals approaches....

For me, it will it be a good time to get the double core chip, pricewise... .
