      SORTED

      I can't believe it was as simple as that. On all my previous motherboards the IDE devices are set as default to 'auto'. On the BE6 they are set to 'none'.

        Isn't that always the way (at least for me, it is)...you spend days tearing your system apart, swapping HW and futzing with jumpers, and it turns out to be some setting that would have taken 15 seconds to fix...if you had ever thought in a million years that that could be it...
