  • Looking to get 10 epia 1GHz mobos, and was wondering...

what the hell could I do with it, as a cluster of one controller and 9 nodes ?

    cheers for ANY options.

Just want ot have and idea of what to do, before i do it.
Sort of like an experiment in clustering if you wish.
Something like F@H or such would be fine..

I can't provide a link now (limited internet connection), but do a search for "beowulf cluster".

I'm not sure, but from my experience 10x1ghz epias probably still can't / can hardly compete with one "regular" high end system.

I thought of Beowulf, but that AFAIK is just the operating system.
What software do I run on it ?
I wouldn't mind a folding at home thing if it works...even if just to bench it against some other machines...benchmarking software then also...

edit: Hehe, that video was sweet...

Have already tried out Linux, don't like the way the loaders take over the HDD, and prefer the command line versions at the moment.
I usually boot from CompactFlash or USB drives. I have up to 4Gb cards, so size is not a problem..

CF is easy with the IDE-CF adapter. really fast too.

What sort of software exists for these sorts of machines ?

I think that should be the first question...

What do you want to do with it? As this will determine what OS/clustering stuff you need to put on the machines.
Just building a cluster with no initial goal in mind seems odd.

I do remember the RPC implementation in Windows, which allows one to run an application with its user interface on one PC, but with the technically portion running on a different computer (we had to implement this once). But I don't know if this is possible for any softwares (I fear the software has to be made for it).
It could be interesting to have each epia run just one software...
(something similar is easier achieved with Linux, just set them all to use the same X-server)
