NullSoft never enforced there 14 day trial so before it was out of support anyways.

Nullsoft, the people who make WinAmp, were bought out by AOL earlier this year. I guess AOL wanted to use the winamp engine in a new version of Netscape and AOL. Now since AOL doesn't make their money from software sales I guess they decided to release WinAmp as freeware to compete with the likes on Sonique and MixMatch (or whatever it's called).
