  • Microsoft Codec's

    Hi there!

I've got a question here, I would like another computer connected to my small network at home to encode mjpeg's made with Matrox RR, everybody knows that you need the Matrox codec to read the .mpg file, is there a way to implement the codec (just the codec) onto another system without installing all RR studio software?

Also another one: I tried to run an .avi file, but got no picture, I need a new codec for this also, the mediaplayer tries to open an internet connection, but I don't have internet at home (probably never will either). Can anyone tell me how to find and implement these codecs? (I suspect they are the .tlb extension files(?))

Ramon (is using Matrox since 1994, recently bought the G400 mjummy!)

The Matrox MJPEG codec cannot be used on one without the proper Matrox hardware.

As for the MicroS**t codec... I have also stumbled on this "Feature", and it is not actually downloading anything (at least not in my case it didn´t), it just wanted to touch home base.
The problem of course is - how to get it done on a machine that doesn´t have a net connection ?

    - Install a modem temporarily (unfortunately Media Player can forget having the codec if you uninstall some other software )
    - Use some dun enhancer programs to connect through an other machine on your network.
    - Go and do some nasty things to BG

Darn, this doesn't realy help me, I only have internet access at the office. I actually called the Micros**t helpdesk, after having talked to seven people (who all said 'your 90 day's support is OVER!') I hung up. Still, I traced two files created after the internet connection made by the mediaplayer : amcompat.tlb and nscompat.tlb , coluld these be the codecs? If I examine the properties of the .avi file it states: no suitable decompressor found, if the mediaplayer 'forgot' it actually has the codec, how do I manually implement it then? (how is Matrox support for RED HAT LINUX by the way?)

It changes some keys/values in the registry also, but I haven't been able to track down all of them yet.

I was posting my previous reply in a hurry to get home, so I forgot to add that there are software codecses that cab be used to play back the Matrox MJPEG files, Morgan should be able to do that.

          Brown Eyes:

Go to the Intel Indeo Codec download page

          http://developer.intel.com/pc-supp/m...ndeo/codec.htm

and get the latest 5.1 set that installs 5.1 as part of a mostly complete codec set.

          File name: iv5setup.exe 1,919KB 18June99

Then, to get the i263 codec:
          http://support.intel.com/support/cre...k/codinstl.htm

          File name: codinstl.exe 1,817KB 24Apr99

You might also check Microsoft's Windows Update site. I downloaded and installed some unspecified MS multimedia codecs there but wasn't told what they were.

          Happy trails,

Something is wrong with the Intel servers today. I can't get in even with just http://www.intel.com/

Try again later as both of the URLs I gave you should work. They will give you all of the most common .avi codecs.
If still no joy, let me know as I have a few more ULS to help track down some of the more odd-ball ones.

I've downloaded the new codec's and it works! The mediaplayer still tries to open an internet connection and even states it cannot find a suiteble decompression codec, but it does play the file after that, so again, thanx!

                    BrownEyes:

Now that you have those codecs installed, you might try reinstalling WMP 6.4 and see if that rids you of the nuisance "...open a connection.." dialog.
If still no joy, try right-clicking the file ->Properties and see if the exact name of the codec used to make the file is named in the info given.
If it is, try these sites to track down and get the exact codec used.
