Leopard news will likely come out at the next developer conference or at one the special events that Apple sometimes holds. I was hoping otherwise, but it makes sense that today was more about the consumer side of things.

I do think Apple was holding back some announcements that may be forthcoming. The iPhone was playing the Beatles at one point, which I'm betting means they are that much closer to getting their catalogue onto the iTunes Store. There's also the fact the Apple TV is partically HD ready, while movies on the iTunes Store, realistically, are not.

Can't wait till they implement that mult input technology on full size computers. Along with proper voice recognition. Then we can do away with the keyboard and mouse. However would hate to think how it would affect RSI . Neck. Would imagine for a laptop to have a dual touch screens like a really big nintendo ds. That would be perfect.

Interestingly enough, the biggest gripe by many so far is the lack of tactile input (as in a physical keypad), which is one thing I'm quite fond of, but I think as with most things people will get used to it.

In terms of the input technology itself, the whole concept of what's being done isn't new by far, but Apple definitely made it work it seems. Multi-touch is pure genius.

We'll see. It's nearly impossible to dial a touchscreen like that without visual feedback, and I don't want to have to look at my phone all the time when I'm dialing/using it. Maybe some kind of audible feedback? Or voice dialing.

There's apparently some form of visual feedback, no real information on whether there's any option for audible feedback.

I hardly ever look at the screen when I'm typing a message out on my phone, so yeah, not sure how well it's going to work with a purely visual interface.

I know you arent meant to use a phone whilst driving but i think this will be less 'safe' than a normal mobile.

Battery life will be quite important.

              Durability too.

One thing that would be cool would be integrated fingerprint reader for phone security.

I'm going to wait for ver2. Video calling / conferincing over wifi would be sweet.

What happens when somone steals your iPhone? Does it permanently deactivate or become useless?

Been listening to Jobs' keynote, specifically the section on the iPhone, and he makes some comments that aren't likely to find their way into most reports/reviews on the device. The most important is that while the iPhone is initially GSM-only, Steve remarked that a 3G version would be forthcoming in the future. I'm guessing that's going to be the one released to the Asian markets where that standard is more prevalent (like Japan), hence the 2008 release date.

Apple sounds pretty confident, so I'm going to guess they feel like they can win any court proceedings. If I'm not mistaken they own the trademark for "iPhone" in other countries.

I know that Cisco owns the trademark in the US and Europe. I am not sure where else.

Just as an aside, the actual iPhone device Apple demoed is not branded with that name (on the device itself). Of course that branding is all over the Apple website for the device.

Not sure what Apple is thinking.

I think they were in talks but wouldn't have gotten an agreement before macworld, so steve just decided to do it this way to be able to make a big show.

Now Engadget has posted a possible second lawsuit contender for the iPhone:

Two sparsely-buttoned large, touchscreen phones: the Apple iPhone, and the LG KE850 (which already won the International Forum Design Product Design Award for 2007). Separated at birth, or possible lawsuit number two for Apple? You decide.

Apparently there is an LG phone that is out in some parts of the world that has a great number of similarities with the Apple iPhone.

On top of that, HP demoed a multi-touch interface months ago (even linked to on MURC somewhere).

It seems that the iPhone is looking more evolutionary than revolutionary now that we've had a chance to step back and think.
