  • Himem.sys error message ... ?

    Whenever I try to boot into Windows 98 safe mode I receive an error massage concerning a not reliable memory adress. So that I cannot
    continue.
    I have booted loading BIOS defaults and also
    got the message.
    I don´t care very much because the system is
    working properly (as I said the error is reported only when booting into safe mode).
    But anyway, have you got an idea?

    regards

    Do you have the long memory check when you boot the machine?
    You probably have
    1) memory settings set too fast, or
    2) busted memory.

      Then again if it's either one of those your machine wouldn't work properly..

        Do you have one or two memory sticks, and if so, are they exectly the same? If not try different dimm slots and try one stick at a time to determine wich one is defect.

          to overcome it, edit your config.sys and make sure the line reads:

          DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /NOMEMCHECK

          Jorden.
