Remote Desktop is a godsend for speed and usefullness, except when you have network errors, or are constantly fiddling with it...
Which VNC? TightVNC and UltraVNC have some compression options which help immensely.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

What self-respecting murcer doesn't have at least 2 displays?
Lugging around a second display for a mini laptop lan party isn't exactly practical in the subway system in montreal.

I like those mini computers, they kick ass!! I can see with a few $$$ making a beowulf cluster....drool.

I didn't know there were variants...basically just VNC. The comparison between VNC and remote desktop is black and white.

Its just I haven't put a second USB extension cable in yet, and the port is inaccessible atm, so to transfer files to and from it, i have to disable the wireless USB adapter, and plug in my Corsair 4Gb USB drive. I Can't do that with remote desktop...
Once the network goes down, i'm in the dark, so to speak.

The KVM was only 30 euros, and i'm pretty happy at how it works...

I haven't seen any HDCP capable KVM's anywhere...(wouldn't want one, but someone else might..)
The DVI ones are expensive (150 euros +) and usually do audio, which i don't need, the amp can do that. I only want to switch between the sound on two of the PC's anyway, the Desktop PC and the Games PC.

Will be taking it apart again this weekend, to put in things like, ON-OFF switch for one of them (instead of two bare wires) and some cooling for the µPC's when the Main PC is off.
Will be taking photos with my trusty (unused for 12 Months) Finepix 4900z and its paltry 64Mb of SmartMedia..

Then i get the pleasure of switching it all on, and re-installing XP on my games machine, and probably making a call to a british microsoft call center somewhere in India...(like last time). Its all pretty hassle-free, just have to lug my PC to near where there is a phone...and bitch that I paid 270 quid for XP Pro retail, and voila.

Play games on it? Hehe, I dunno, sell the processing power to the highest bidder I guess.

A Via Epia 1GHz is apparently equivalent to about a PIII 500....so the power wouldn't be that great, unless it was for AES encryption/deCryption (hardware implemented).

You could get much more power from a quad core intel chip

Well, there is this hidden file from an old game that's encrypted, I'd use a beowulf cluter to try and decrypt it. Other than that, I'd have no use for one. lol
