  • iPhone Ads

Whether you think iPhone is going to be the greatest thing since... well you know where I'm going with that... You have to admit that it's a rare thing to see the UI for a phone being the primary selling point in an ad (at least here in the US).

I don't have much interest in one, but the ads are slick.

As long as I have a flip phone with pay-as-you-go, decent battery life, reliable connections and voice dialing that works I'm happy.

I'm not big on voice dialing, but that's pretty well all I need in a phone. Well, don't use pay-as-you-go either, but *shrug*

I just don't think the UI of the iPhone will be "bling" enough to become a major selling point. not to mention the obnoxious cost.

The cell phone industry is finicky like that. The only reason the RAZR became the de facto standard phone was because the carriers were able to get the prices reasonable after a few months. This will likely never happen with the iPhone, and it's novalty will wear off within 6-12 months...

Don't necessarily disagree, hence why the thread was about the ads, not the iPhone itself

It's quicktime Alternative so you can play MOVs without having to install Quicktime. There's also a real alternative.

It's obviously not an official ad, but given all the hype I found it fitting...

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

I think the Iphone is a creative work of art in terms how it functions, wish it was available in Canada!

I wish the iPhone would actually be as cool as what you see in the commercials. But since I know that there exists no mobile chipset or processor that will fit in a case that size that will do all of those things...

Why hasn't anyone sued Apple yet? I mean, whether or not I like Macs aside, they outright LIE in all their ad campaigns, they have for years. Why has this never resulted in a lawsuit?

What company hasn't? I mean, have you ever seen the abstract garbage Microsoft says is possible if you use any of their products? I mean, have you seen any of the ads for the Zune? There's no "outright" lies, but there's plenty of misleading info in them.

As far as why Apple's never being sued for their ads, maybe it's because they've been sued for plenty of other things that have been far worse than whatever lies you think you see in their ads.

That all said, of course the iPhone isn't going to operate quite that smoothly, but by early accounts it's pretty damn close. Regardless, the UI (note the emphasis) is better than anything on the plethora of other like phones. Might be why no one else runs ads that feature the UI...

No one's quite sure what processor it uses. Samsung is a supplier of iPod processors (at least based on reports) and there are rumours that Marvell might be supplying the processor for the iPhone, which lends itself to being an ARM processor in that case.

Interesting commercials, horrible music. Halfway through the second ad I wanted to turn off the audio.

HTC, who makes Windows Mobile phones, has already released their iPhone competitor in the UK called the Touch:

Has a "3D" interface and motion sensitive touch screen. HTC is going for Touch entrenchment in Non-North American markets before the iPhone ever reaches them. Supposedly due out in NA in 1Q 08, but this version is GSM/EDGE only. Though I'm sure a CDMA version will hit US shores, too.

I've always liked my Windows Mobile device mainly because I can tweak it so much and use Exchange ActiveSync on the go.

I have a new T-Mobile Wing. It is... awesome. The graphics are nowhere near as swank as the iPhone... well, that's not quite true. The graphics are great. The video is unaccelerated because it uses a TI OMAP processor @201Mhz to save power. Great battery life for a PDA phone! Other PDA's have smoother animation because they have a graphics chip, or use a processor like the ARM with dedicated graphics processing... but other PDA's have a battery life measured in the "well under a day" span.

The problem I see with the iPhone is that we haven't got - as far as I know - the technology to do what they say it will do in a package the size that they show... with decent battery life. It just doesn't exist. Add to that the fact that Cingular/AT&T doesn't have anything faster than EDGE at the moment... and you have some VERY misleading propaganda. And yet they've presold millions of the things. You're going to have some very disgruntled consumers when this finally rolls out!
