old machine P4 2.8 (crappy "Hyper Threading" off in bios)
              1.5 GB DDR 333
              RHEL 4.0

new box running CentOs 5 (RHEL 5)
The project's testing suite (Junit) is highly threaded.
Build time (ant) of my project dropped from 23 min in Avg, to 6.5 min.
              I like it.

I love Hyper Threading. It's probably the main reason why this old CPU I'm using is still going strong.

                  Just ordered (for work):

                  Q6600
                  Asus P5K3 bundled with 2 * 1GB DDR3 1333MHz
                  3 * 500GB HGST
                  Silverstone TJ06 case + Silverstone 600W PSU
will be recycling 2 * 7950XT so can still run 3 * 1280 * 1024. I'm gonna miss having a P on my desktop...will probably keep it in another rig for something.

                  Replaces P4 3GHz.

                        End of year funds

I don't expect the DDR3 to give any better performance over high-end DDR2, but it does use less power apparently, so its good for the planet if not for the bank balance

DDR3 will outperform DDR2 eventually so you can always upgrade later

Well,i'll see how things turn out in a few months, but i'm ready to take the next step in multithreading/multitasking insanity.....Going from a Quad core system right now,to one with dual Quad cores, and as surprising as it sounds,it isn't an Intel based system..

I'm currently running an AMD Quad FX board with 2 dual core FX70 chips, and 4gig's of DDR 2 800 ram, with an X2900XT card, and those upcoming AMD Quad core Barcelona chips, are direct drop in's,not even a Bios update is needed.....
