  • G400, games having hickups??

I hava had these "hickups" from the day I installed my G400 DH 32MB... Even the Matrox Techdemo has these sudden stops, like someone plays pause and play very fast (making any sense?). I suspect that this could be some king of hardware/bus problem...

I have asus bx6r2 motherboard and the PD 5.115 drivers that shipped with the card. I tried to update to 5.20 and half of the games stopped working...Haven't tried 5.30...

asus bx6r2 ?? You must mean Abit ... I have the same board and all is running fine for me.. Did you uninstall your previous drivers before inserting the G400? System specs might also help to see what could be wrong...

If this is only happening at the very start of the techdemo, i've seen this once before. Was with a 16meg OEM G400 that a local shop had in when the G400 was first shipping. The demo would stutter a bit when it first started up as it cached all the textures and stuff, and was fine after that.
However, it sounds more like this is a recurring thing.
First off, try 5.30, especially with your setup. But more importantly, CHECK FOR IRQ CONFLICTS! This is the biggest cause of headaches these days. Sounds like something (probably your soundcard and/or NIC) is sharing an IRQ with something it shouldn't be.
Goto your control panel, System->Device Manager->Properties then tell us what is listed under Interrupt Request (IRQ)'s and we should be able to diagnose it easier.
If you DO see conflicts, try moving (if you have one) your PCI sound card or network card to a different slot, or if you have any ISA devices that use an IRQ, use their jumpers or setup program to move the IRQ to something that doesn't conflit.

        Hi Nixu,

reading your post makes me think you tried to update you previous PD ...

If so, grab the uninstaller from Matrox, get rid of all old traces from PD and reinstall PD5.30 ...

        Cheers,

          Thanks dudes!

I will try to solve those IRQ settings and I'll post results here afterwards... (I don't have connection from home).

Here is a list of stuff that I have on my computer:

          -ABIT bx6 r2
          -Celeron 366 @ 458
          -128 Mb Mem
-Matrox G400 Dualhead with 32 Mb mem
          -Seagate Medalist 10 Gb Harddrive
          -Soundblaster AWE32
          -One Ide 8x CD-ROM drive
          -Wacom Artpad tablet

This should be easy system to optimize...
