I voted for parts unrelated to the problem.
After seeing what a friend of mine got sent to fix a problem with the power button board, and all the wrong parts that the tech came out with, I don't have any faith in Dell support even after discussing it in detail.

I don't think that's what it needs considering the way the cover/lcd tries to flop over like a dead fish right now.

                      Give the man a cigar!

The box just arrived at home and if Becky's description is at all accurate, and I assume it is, then we got not just the hinge but two complete left and right hinge assemblies.

Silent recall becomes almost a certainty.
I'll look for differences in the offending castings when I get home.

Sweet! Glad you got the right part.

So you'll be buying more Dell's I take it? And can I trade the cigar for some beers?

"Nooo! The intern sent a customer the right parts! On the first try! I'll have to speak to the supervisor, this has got to stop!"

If that kit contains actual user replaceable hinges, our next laptop will be a Dell. Guaranteed*.

*It might be anyway. It's been a great laptop.
