  • Need a smartphone...push email from multiple servers?

    Hi

I need a smartphone (WM5/6?) to receive push email. Trouble is I need to receive push email from 2 or 3 Exchange servers.

Is this something that a particular smartphone might let me do, or maybe there is a 3rd party app that allows it? Presumably I'm not the first person in a system support role with this problem.

As to the phone itself, I really don't care about all the whizz bangs. Just reliable calls and email reception, across Europe ideally, is needed.

    TIA

    T.

It doesn't look like WM supports connections to multiple Exchange servers, push enabled or not. It's possible that the push code built into the OS is only capable of having one server connection.

Could you make do with multiple accounts with a short check frequency? If you're moving around a lot anyway the likelhood is that the push connections will keep dropping and re-connecting, using up alomst as much data as checking every 10 mins.

Or maybe it's just my house that has reception that bad.

Multiple accounts with a regular check frequency would be great.

What phone are you using? I'm looking for a device and a reasonably priced tariff (low call volume, hopefully not too much data volume).

Windows Mobile only allows one exchange account (I just asked Jamm this question a month or two ago). I'd suggest getting the other accounts auto-forwarded to your main account. It might make replying funky unless you can do 'reply-as' rules on the phone and I haven't played with that.

Yes, it's really annoying. I do have all my accounts forward to my primary, but then replies all come from the primary. *sigh*

If you can use POP on any of the servers you can have as many as you like (I think).

              Thanks Guys

Two things (apart from that) have shocked me here:

              1) Apparently I need £50 CAL for each exchange server I wish to connect to. Not a problem for one of the servers, but the other two would likely cost me.

              2) the data connection for it would be £25pm on top of the regular tarriff, so £55pm.

A regular t-mobile web'n'walk type package at £27.50pm with unlimited data, accessing OWA or via pop3 a few times a day is looking more sensible.

It would have been nice to be able to switch profiles and connect to different Exchange servers, even if that's not 'always on'.

Yes, it gets pricey. I pay $125 a month after taxes for:

                1000 Minutes, Free Nights/Weekends
My Faves / My Five (Unlimited calling to 5 people on any network)
Family Plan, 3 lines (share the pool of 1000 minutes but each line gets its own "faves")
Unlimited data (no proxy, all ports open, etc.)
                No roaming charges

We actually only use two of the three family lines, but I got the third to get a good deal on the Wing ($150 - $50 rebate for a $500 phone!) and actually it proves useful to have a cheapie Nokia with another set of 5 numbers it can call for free...

                ...

Now what'll REALLY shock you is the battery life (or lack thereof) on these devices! My Wing gets a half-decent lifespan, but it's actually gaining some renown in the PDA Phone world because of it. Most PDA phones barely make it through the workday without being charged!
