I just replaced my SB Live Value with the Aureal Vortex 2Super quad...and so far, I sure love it...None of the lockups, etc..that I used to get with the Live Value...
    Running it with a G400 Max and K7 600!!!

Using SB emulation with the Aureal SQ2500 does require an additional IRQ. If you disable this, as I do, the card only requires one IRQ, which can be any IRQ.

I've just been looking for the Vortex2 cards and there are two listed:

        Aureal Vortex2
        Aureal Vortex2 SuperQuad

What is the difference between these two?

Also, is there any benefit to getting the retail version over an OEM?

I believe the SQ had the 4 outputs (the V2 might have them too, I am not sure) and the Fibre Optic connector at the back plate...not sure of the actual sound features...check out aureal's site...
btw, I have the V2 SQ, and really like it...none of the probs I had with my SB Live!!!

I finally got a MX300 and it's working great... had some problems with irq though... see the matrox hardware forum. It's sort of fixed now... everything is just on IRQ 5 =) Sound card and USB... no conflicts though.

I just have one question... is it possible to mute just one of the outputs? I have speakers and headphones. Can I mute the speakers and have just the headphones running on the 2nd output? My speakers have no on/off switch. Thanks!

I do not think so... I had the same problem on mine... but I at least had a power switch on the speakers...

                JesTa,
don't worry abaout the IRQ, the AUREAL chipped cards were brought up the right way, and don't throw a tantrum when they have to share.
Sorry can't be a better help on the rest, but have you tried to change things in the volume control and/or mixer. If you can't turn off one output jack, then you might try to adjust the front/rear balance so most if not all sound goes to the jack where the headphones are plugger in. You might have to tell it you have a 4 speaker setup, so one jack will be frond sounds, and one will be rear. Just a thought.

I'm guessing you're in the UK?

I wanted a Vortex2 SQ 2500 and could only find the cards you posted.

As for OEM Vs retail, OEM won't have the nice box or bundled software (I think!)

So bottom line, should I go for a V2 SQ2500 or a SB Live 1024 player?

                    Which has better quality?

                    Which is better supported?
