A tough call. A lot of it depends on the format of the computer it's going into. Samsung is the best quiet drive. Hitachi makes the fastest drives. Western Digital typically has the most solid all around drive. Seagate has the most options and the best warranty. I chose Samsung since that's what I currently run.“Inside every sane person there’s a madman struggling to get outâ€

I voted Seagate...
I had 2 Western Digital IDE disk that suddenly lost all data (nothing accessible, warranty had passed), then had a Quantum 10k SCSI disk die on me (was replaced, replacement also died but then I got the worst support imaginable), had an IBM 10k SCSI disk showins SMART errors (replaced under warranty), had the replacement IBM disk exhibiting odd behaviour (IBM hdd had then been bought by Hitachi, they gave me a test program which apparently told them the disks weren't rotating stable; drive was replaced under warranty). I also had an external Lacie RAID0 die on me (I think they use Western Digital), which was also replaced under warranty.
So then I got a Seagate 10k disk, and it works like a charm; later I added 3 Barracuda ES disks, and am still very pleased with them.
(I still have 3 Connor harddisks, 420 MB each, bought back in 1995, all still running perfectly (one of them even was moved around a lot in a removable rack)
But now I'm sticking with Seagate (but I am quite pleased with Hitachi as well), and then only with the disks on which a 5 year warranty is offered.

I started buying samsung a few years ago when all the hdd manufacturers except them went to 1 year warranties, they have been quiet and reliable. Mainly use them for HTPC type machines.
But I still happily buy seagates for my main work come gaming computer, 5year warrantee and decent performance being the reason.

I started with Quantum, followed by IBM, that didn't turn out to be the much dreaded Death Star for me (still have a 40GB running in some older system) and finally settled on WD.
Right now I have 2x 36GB Raptors, one 76GB Raptor and one 320GB KS. Personally I never had to RMA a drive from WD, although my brother had problems with a 120GB model (ATA).

Have to go with the last drive I bought really - Just bought another IBM Deathstar for me (sorry, Hitachi)
Never ever liked Quantum - altho I did own a 1.2Gb SCSI that went thru hell without going wrong and I even had a bigfoot (remember them!?!?!) once.

Results are turning out pretty much how I figured they would, although I didn't think Samsung would get that many votes.Q9450 + TRUE, G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2, GTX 560, ASUS X48, 1TB WD Black, Windows 7 64-bit, LG M2762D-PM 27" + 17" LG 1752TX, Corsair HX620, Antec P182, Logitech G5 (Blue)
