Right, but if you have to reinstall... do you have to do so through that installer? Or can you grab the latest one later? I'm unclear how the licensing mechanism works here. Are you certain that the license key you have now (good for a year) is different from what originally came up?

I don't even use AVG any more - I use Spy Sweeper / Sophos. But I'm curious, as this would be good to have for, say, my mom.

I used the installer from the download, and then ran the update to the latest version after it installed. Not sure how it works if you get a newer one separately and try to use the key.
I just put it on a secondary system to see if I could tell the difference... basically none that I noticed between it and the free version unless you want to set up some fancy custom scan schedules.
