    IRQ 11: Oy.

I'm running a PII 300 on an AOpen AX6B motherboard. Anyone got hints on how to stop the free beer?

Are you using both of your IDE channels? If not, disable it in the bios.

Disable any COM port or LPT1 if you are not using them.

How about the USB? Disable it in the bios if it is not being used.

If either the ethernet controller or the sound card are in PCI1 (next to the AGP slot), move them away. Try other cards in PCI1 if you have no available PCI slots. Leave PCI1 empty if possible.

Try assigning the Matrox card to IRQ 11 in addition to the other suggestions.

    Good luck

I'd try to steer the G400 into the empty IRQ9. It will be much happier there.
(It should really be on 9 or higher). Also, disable USB if you're not using it. I'm not familiar with the Vortex, but it might be okay on 5 once the G400 is on 9.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Yeah, IRQ 9 is better. I missed that.

          I'm using both IDE channels. 3 HD's and a DVD-Rom.

I can't seem to find a setting to disable the USB, even though I don't use it.

How do I specify what IRQ a device gets?
I've never dealt with this sort of thing before.

No card is in PCI 1, btw.

            Hi Kenlon,

Look in your Bios for a page like this:

            PNP/PCI Configuraion
            ********************
            PNP OS Installed.......: NO
            Force Update ESCD......: Disable
            Resources Controlled By: Manual
            Assign IRQ For VGA.....: Enable
Assign IRQ for USB.....(change this to Disable)
            PIRQ-1 Use IRQ No......(change to 9)
            PIRQ-2 Use IRQ No......: Auto
            PIRQ-3 Use IRQ No......: Auto
            PIRQ-4 Use IRQ No......: Auto

In addition to what ALBPM suggested, your manual for the mb (p. 23) says the "Resouces Controlled by" setting needs to be set to "Manual" to allow individual IRQ assignments.

I've used Vortex cards for some time now, and they are quite happy on any IRQ. Are you really using those com ports? You can also disable them in the BIOS. My Vortex card (Aureal SQ2500) is quite content at IRQ 4. Nothning at 9 or 10?
