  • Win2k question and rant....

This may sound a bit stupid, but here goes anyway:

Where can I get the latest Win2K beta? I know it's possible to order it from Microsoft USA, but I don't have the dough to pay their horrific fee. Isn't it out on a "shareware/test" license anyway? I mean, I could try getting it as a warez version, but it would be much nicer to get it without breaking any laws.

So, why do I need it? Well, at the education I attend to become a systems developer here in Denmark, we have just received our mid-term exam project, that we have three weeks to complete.
This time we are doing a case study of survaliance systems. This means trying to develop and document a simple but effective client-server program that uses Winsock / TCP/IP to communicate and works by reading bar codes off a keycard, which is then transferred to different log files on the server. We are implementing it in C++ and I have read that Win2K should be easier to setup for the purpose of simple networking tasks than NT4. I have also been told that it needs less tweaking (read - no need for timeconsuming tasks like writing individual user profiles for rights and privileges).

So if it's possible to get it (preferably legally) could you post where, please...

Feel free to include any comments on my project. Should I stick with NT4? Maybe try Linux as a server platform?

    Regards,

    Jake

      Thank you!

And I mean it! You would mail me that piece of software, even though I live in Denmark? That's gonna cost a pretty penny!

Fortunatly, I found out today that one of my friends is getting Beta3 so it will be easier for me to get it from him...

But thank you anyway! You DA MAN!

        LAMFDTK,

Can you post Win2K RC-3 on an FTp site? That way no postage would need to be paid and everyone will happy...unless you have a crap connection that is.

          Get RC2 if possible. There's a huge difference between B3 and RC2.

Download mIRC http://www.mirc.com/ , go to an EFNet server and join #win2000 or #windows2000

You'll likely be able to find a FTP server near you w/ RC3....

I don't condone warez... but also don't have anything against sharing information...
