  • The Monitor From hell

About 6 months ago, I got a 21" Digital(the company) monitor w/ the Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube off of ebay. I worked fine for a little while, until recently. Now I get darks bands on the screen, only really noticeable against a white background. Some of the time they start moving downward on the screen. Othertimes, the screen gets really dark and spontaneously resizes itself. When that happens I turn off the monitor for a few seconds and then it returns to normal. I've tried adjusting the refresh rate to no avail. Also, there is a switch in the back labeled synch the toggles between 75 ohms and 1000 ohms, I've tried messing with that but it doesnt seem to help. Does anyone know if this is repairable, or worth repairing? Or could it be some other aspect of my system. Here are the specs:

    Matrox G400max
    Athlon 600
    Fic Sd-11
300W Power Supply (Supporting two fans along w/ system)
    IBM deskstar 18gb 7200 rpm
    Pioneer 303s scsi dvd rom
    teac 8x cd-r scsi
    Xitel Platinum sound (vortex 2)
    Generic 10baseT nic

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks

J, I'd call the company's tech supp. It's repairable (not something that you can do or would really want to). It's upto you to determine whether it's worth it or not. A repair of this kind can be expensive but ask if it's a common problem with that particular series or model first and always ask for an estimate before the repair.

sounds like all it needs is a degauss. Older monitors dont let you do that.
