Makes me wonder when this news will be officially confirmed by nVidia...

Basically a cooler and quieter and higher clocked 8800GTS 512. Enough to put it pretty much on par with the 8800GTX.
I was looking forward to this one, but it looks like I might end up "cheaping" out on my video with my next machine (9600GT probably), and then waiting for the NEXT gen card.

Essentially a 8800GTS refresh, enough to move it up into competition with the 8800GTX/Ultra.

9800GTX, 2 versions available on ncix, $360 and $375. Forget it at that price. Go for the 8800GT or GTS at half the price. Or even the 9600GT which you can find for well under $150 and wait till the next gen to splurge.

Perhaps it is just me, but I can't help but wonder about the intel compatibility of Ati cards...
I 'd guess they would perform better on AMD than on Intel systems, or wouldn't this be the case?

Actually the DAMMIT (AMD/ATI) cards work very well with the intel chipsets. A big issue though, is that nvidia won't allow intel chipsets to support SLI. IMO the X38/X48 are the best chipsets out there - bar none, its unfortunate they won't work (without some modding or tweaking) with SLI.

Just to make a choice more difficult:
                    GeForce 9900 GTX/GTS in July?

Yeah I know... its driving me nuts. I'm back and forth between 9600GT, 8800GT, and 9800GTX now. If I'm upgrading again in a couple months anyways, might be better to go cheaper, but I should still get a fair price for a more expensive card... but still lose more money...
