  • Performance! Faster Vid Card first or Faster CPU first?

    Mellow,

First things first. CPU - PIII-450 are relatively inexpensive and with the right memory and motherboards are very overclockable. (Mine is bedrock at 600Mhz). You'll enjoy increased game performance and once you get your G400 (Max or Non) TurboGL.

First I would try something more with your PII. At what voltage are you running the CPU at?

I'd go with upgrading the CPU first. IT will produce a marked improvement across the board, including your video, while a new card such as the G400 really won't help as much with a slower CPU.

Performance! Faster Vid Card first or Faster CPU first?

        Hi Guys,

Should I upgrade my CPU for increased gaming performance before getting a new video card or do I get the new Video card first.

I currently have a PII 300 (SL2YK) which won't run stable at 450Mhz (with heaps of cooling) and a G200 Millenium 8 meg SGRAM card along with 96 megs PC100 ram.
The G200 won't display text correctly in IE4 or Netscape when I have run the CPU at 450Mhz (Weird!). I just borrowed a Sniper2 32Meg TNT2 M64 card which worked O.K although the system still kicked me out of some games and froze (which won't occur @ 300 Mhz.
        I can run most new games well at 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 (16 or 32 bit) without problems on the G200. I only have a 15" monitor so 1024 x 768 isn't that big a deal to me.

Should I consider a Celeron upgrade or stick to PIII's. What do I replace first?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

        Mellow
