Microsoft means that sales of Vista will have to plummet and sales of XP will have to explode in the coming two months.

Sales of what? new PC's, OEM licenses, retail packages.

If it's new PC's then as most come with Vista pre-loaded then it's not surprising more Vista PC's are sold, doesn't mean people prefer, or want, Vista. Even if it comes with a downgrade CD it will still probably go down as a sale for Vista.
