Well, AVG 8 after a reboot, first one actually, said its licence was gone, and I had to re-run the installer.
      After that it was fine....

Win98 should be less and less of a problem since hackers won't be targeting it anymore.
its mostly just the leftover virii living in the Internet ...

We actually have a Win98 machine at work with AVG on it...maybe a google search for it might find a repository....?

I don't think their site supports Win98 anymore, but it wasn't that long ago...

Wow. This is a clean install of XP since early this morning, and for the second time AVG 8 has crapped out.
Databases out of date, even though there are no new updates available...reinstall, again, and its ok.

Looks like i might be using the free Kaspersky licence that came with the Maximus Formula mobo...

Evilldead666: Yep, those where the same issues I encountered...

So far, Avast seems to be working just fine. But I find the userinterface a bit odd (most likely it takes some getting used to).
          Thanks!

It is strange, isn't it? Apparently people like it once they get used to it.

In all honesty, I don't really like the userinterface (keep on opening the wrong stuff when I need something). But if the software does what it should do (which is the first prerequisite), I'm willing to adapt.

There are skins for Avast, I used to install corporate skin, which looks like normal window.

If you're using Avast then this is by far the nicest skin

My gripes have nothing to do with the skin, more with the global descriptions and layout. The skinned part of Avast is just a very small thing (and I tend to prefer uniformity on my desktop)...

But if does a good job (which seems to be the case), I can live with it.

I've tried AVG and Avira. I kept the latter since it's a bit more reliable.

You know I've been using AVG forever at home. It's free and it works well. The problem is I actually have a Windows Servers. It's honestly overkill for home use but since my day job is tech its nice to have something I can keep my skills sharp on at home. That and being able ot activesync to my own domain is nice.

The problem is there are NO free antivirus programs that I've found that are good for servers. So... I'm this close to buying a $200 five system license from NOD32 so I can have it on my server and might as well have a good program on my other systems as well. All and all its weird to complain to have to pay for software... but to keep my ever growing data safe.. yeah not a bad idea. Heck I'm planning on doing RAID5 sometime before the end of the summer for the same reason.

I can live with out my mp3 collection.. but my email and photos and photoshop files... yeah not so much.
Wikipedia and Google.... the needles to my tangent habit.
