edit : And just for the temp readings, this is a 120mm fan i ripped from the PSU of an IBM PS/2 Server (80386 model)
I think the case was actually made of cast iron (very very heavy, two hands.)
I had another one, but it didn't run properly after about 6 years.
5-blade 12V, not too noisy, but its where i heard of Papst for the first time.
Yay, Realtemp looks good, and coming from XS its gotta be right.
I have blind faith in those lunatics...
Have you tried the "Blend" test in Prime95 ?
I was just playing with the memory timings, and Memtest86+ 2.01 to check for errors.
I got my G.Skill DDRII-800 , normally rated for 4-4-4-12-4 @ 2.1V, to 3-3-3-8-3 without any errors in Memtest86+.
got into Windows, decided to stress as much RAM as possible, immediate fail.
went back to 4-3-4-11-4 , which had managed a Prime95 test at full power consumption, and maximum core stress, but failed 3 threads when maximum memory was used...
Just went back to 4-4-4-12-4, and its passing fine...
Just thought you might wanna check, since Prime is the only software to have told me I was going too far...
edit : the full power test only uses 500-600Mb, the blend test started at 1.87Gb used, and is at 1.91Gb atm...
edit 2 : went up to 3.52GHz no problem also, just my memory was at 5-5-5-15-5, and memory bandwidth was slightly lower than DDR800, at 4-4-4-12-4, so came back down to keep some lower latencies..
Still haven't played any games yet...lol
Heres a little screencap of Prime95 load with lots of RAM tested...
gonna be going back up to 3.52 on 1:1 mem-cpu divider to see what cpu temps are like, so we can compare at same frequencies, just slightly different cooling setups...
Scratch that.
My memory won't allow 1:1 cpu-mem divider even at 5-5-5-15-11 (auto setting in BIOS)
thats at fsb 440...
looks like i'm going to be getting some DDRII-1066 or so...
its a bitch, cos i was looking forward to getting 6x500Gb IDE drives next to replace the 200Gb ones in Stor...
Suppose i'll get the HDD's this time, and the mem next. Not sure how long IDE drives are gonna be around...
edit : re-testing at DDR800 4-4-4-12-4 and all seems well, I haven't borked it this time round, lol
Seeing the price difference, 530 Euros for the 6x HDDs, or 240 Euros for 4x1Gb OCZ Flex XLC PC9200 5-5-5-18, looks like it might be the memory...
The HDDs will have to be done three by three...later.
i'll check to see if I can do it this month tonight, and then put in the order later on if so.
From what i can see through the 20cm fan on top of my case, the memory shouldn't be touching the CPU fan, but the fins will just be in the airflow.
Anyone know if two of these will fit side by side without problems ? or 4 even ?
I know some memory modules have to be placed a slot apart due to their large passive coolers...
edit : just sent an email to the shop to see if they can test for me before purchase, to see if all 4 will physically fit.
edit 2 : looks like i'll be overclocking the balls off this after all. A little competition is all thats needed, cheers Mehen Soon we FIGHT lol
Yeah I did Prime 95 for a few hours on all 4 cores. Great program. This G.Skill 1000 is working great at 1056. Reasonable price too. I think it's ~$115 CAD right now.

Yeah, but did you try the blend test ? the one that uses loads of RAM ?
I immediatly went for the "in-place large FFT's" instead of "blend", and its ran fine, but wasn't testing enough of the RAM.
It WAS testing the CPU a lot tho, as it says...
Just played a couple hours of supreme commander with 6 AI, the game still slowed down a bit when I got further, but nothing compared to my 3ghz P4. Temps never got above 48C or so. And I didn't even turn up any of my fans
I love this machine.

I've been told I could probably get away with lowering my RAM voltage (even though I am running faster than spec). I'll try that when I get home from work.
And I haven't experimented TOO much with the vcore and nb voltages yet either. I'd imagine I could probably lower one of em a tiny bit still too.
Everything is running awesome so far; Crysis, SupCom. (I guess those are the only 2 things out that are really taxing). UT3, CoD4 run perfect.
