  • Monitor Recommendations?

I am looking to buy a new 19" monitor to replace my 19" KDS VS-195. I definately want to go with the best quality for under $700 for use with my Matrox G400 MAX. What are your expert opinions? I have seen the Sony GDM 400PS for $659 that looks ok, anyone have one of these?

I personally like MAG Innovision products. Their 800v got PC Mag's Editor's Choice award and they run for under $400. There is only one small problem with them...they are impossible to find. My friend has been trying to find one for 2 months now, but everyone is out of stock on them. CDW has a back-order of 650 for the 800v. Ouch!

I have a MAG Innovision, the DX17F. I'm not that impressed, the picture is fuzzy for a .25 monitor, and the digital controls are starting to go. It can't hold it's horizontal size anymore. And it's only about 18 months old. I won't buy MAG again. However, my roommate's Hitachi 751, that's pretty.

I have owned a MAG Innovision DX715T for over 2 years and have had a perfect, crystal clear picture for all 2 of those years. I should change my previous statment a bit...

High-end MAG's are great and not that expensive. My friend just got a MAG XJ810. Very pretty picture and under $500.

                      Hi specialk,

IMO, NEC FP950 is best of all for G400 MAX. Compare:
                      1600x1200x32 - 88Hz (my working desktop, 1st monitor; the 2nd is some 17"" HP)
                      2048x1536x32 - 60Hz (looks rather awesome)
                      800x600x32 - 160Hz (HMM3 are stunning!)

Here it costs about $750, but I suppose the price in America is below $700.

                      Greetings from Russia.

If you are looking for the best quality/price monitor go for ViewSonic. The monitors that have better image quality cost atleast twice as the ViewSonic.
I have one and it is realy good.

I like the Viewsonic monitors too. They might cost a little more than most other places, but there support in excellent. My first 17" monitor (GS771) from Viewsonic screwed up big time, so they were kind enough to send a truck from Toronto and pick it up. As soon as they received the bad monitor, a new one (G773) was sent out. Total time was a week and a half, and no charge to me. All I had to do was wait.

With that kind of service, I'll be sure to make future purchases from them. There low end monitors are priced almost the same for the cheapy ones, so I strongly recommend giving them a try.

I picked up my third monitor from Optiquest (pretty much the same), and I bought my girlfriend a Viewsonic E771 for $300 Cdn,....not too bad.
