  • PIII 450/100 => 600/133 ?

    Can I use SDRAM133 with my P3B-F motherboard and use my PIII 450 at 600 Mhz?
    I ask this 'cause it seems that the motherboard fully support this frequency (that is, AGP and PCI slots runs at common frequencies and not over).
    Thanks, Stefano

    It should work with no problems. I bought a pretested P3-450@600, but I'm not running it at that now because I lack the 1/2 divider for the AGP bus with my BH6 and I don't want to put money out for PC133 SDRAM. Its been running like a top for the past 2 months @558 which is pretty damn quick

      if you have a graphics card that can support and agp speed of 89mhz rather than the usual 66 then give it a try, the main two things prevenjting your 600 dreams are the agp bus and the chip itself. If you have a retail boxed p3450 then you should be able to get to 600 quite easily (there are some that work quite happily at 630) but if your graphics card doesn't like the increased bus then it's a no go. g400's seem to like the higher bus speed but i know of a lot of cards don't. give it a go. good luck and if you can you may need to up the cpu voltage. 2.2v should do the trick, if it does then bring the voltage down to keep the chip as cool as poss. i run mine at std voltage now but ti used to need a touch more.

        The fact is that the motherboard supports the
        correct frequency of PCI and AGP bus at
        66, 100 and _also_ 133. I was only concerned
        if the cpu could support the frequency
        of 600 mhz

          I got my P3-450 today with some 133Mhz ram, but I'm only able to get it to 550Mhz, 600 gave me the blue screen of death. I don't think it was a retail version 'coz it came fitted with a custom cooler

            Yep, that wasn't a Boxed processor.

            My Boxed PIII-450 handles 600 with no problems. I don't have the 1/2 divisor for AGP, but the MAX is very forgiving of the 89Mhz AGP Bus - it even likes 2x mode with that...

              So do you think that a non retail P3 450 will never get to 600??

                i have heard of one or two oem chips that made 600. two examples i have seen are sl35d chips. they have n't listed batch numbers. I know they use decent coolers on them thou, at least a p125 but better would be a net n dude p3 cooler.

                  Everyone likes to research the hell out of there hardware and when it comes to Ram people buy what is "sold to them"...I have a Boxed PIII-450 SL37C that I can run as fast as 620+ . Because I have great Ram. I spent a lot of time reading about Ram and its really boring !! But I wanted to "rule-out" certain parts of my set-up and Ram is one thing that I wanted to not have to worry about.

                  I run a stock heatsink on the CPU and have a Card Cooler. I keep the Volts at 2.0/2.05/2.10. And of course I only O/C when I need to...Games. After I'm done with the game I "clockback" to default or 475-500 range....
