  • adding second hard drive...questions

I want to take out my zip drive(I've got a cdrw)and add another hard drive. No problem
with the physical installation but once it's
in(here's where my limited computer knowledge shows) do I deal with it as if it were the only hd,i.e. f disc and format? Do I need to install windows on this drive. What's the correct procedure?
    Any advice appreciated.

Set up your hard drives master-slave- run fdisk.
Fdisk recognizes two hard drives and gives you the option as to what to do and to which drive. It will appear as drive 1- drive 2.
Choose your hard drive and proceed with fdisk.
This will give you drive c and drive d.Cdrom will become drive e.As to formatting type format D:.
Your slave drive is now ready for you to put on it what ever you like.

          Alfie,
My dvd and cdrw are now going to be drives
e and f.All my games were installed with drive d.
From past experience I know that most of my
games are not going to recognize the application if I don't use the 'installing drive'(d) which will now be the second hard drive. Is there a work around for this problem?

            Hi Surferpop

            Use Control-Panel/system/device manager

Then select your hdd that is now D and reserve it a letter somewhat higher
After a reboot, if something else hasn't got D, you should be able to reserve it for your CDROM. If not, repeat the process.

            Good Luck

            Tony.
