  • alt+tab for vista

    Hello,

I'm looking for a (free) alt+tab replacement for Vista, that offers a preview of the applications. On XP, I used the excellent tool TaskSwitchXP, but it doesn't run on Vista.

As my videocard (Parhelia) does not support the Aero interface, I don't have flip3D or even flip...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

            Ouch indeed...
I knew I could expect this comment...

It is just: I don't care about the aero interface (allthough it would also allow media center), but have grown accustomed to those alt+tab previews (convenient when you have multiple instances of the same program). Besides: the mainboard has agp and pci-x (no pci express) slots, so buying a new videocard for it seems a waste.

As there are tools on XP to do it, why not on Vista?
            (rhethorical question )

I could have sworn Vista already gives you the preview for alt+tab. Am I wrong?

              What about windows key+tab?

in my book being accustomed to alt-tab previews in windows is the same as caring about aero interface, as at least it's 3D accelerated with aero (instead of hogging the CPU as with these XP-compatible replacements).

Why would a new AGP card be a waste? My advice: get an AMD HD2400

Helevitia: This is going to sound odd, but my keyboard has no wondows key... It is trusty old cherry professional with a din5 plug, connected using a ps/2 to din5 dapter. I'll look into that link. I'll also try to remap that hotkey. :-)

dZeus: Why is that the same? Aero = eye-candy, alt+tab previews offer a convenient functionality if you have different instances of the same software running.

alt-tab preview, without slowing down your pc to a crawl (as some of the add-in packages for XP do) is why you should care about Aero Glass.

If you don't care about other hw accelerated effects you can always disable them.

TaskSwitchXP doesn't slow down the pc to a halt, nor does the Microsoft alt-tab-replacement powertoy...

Just found a way to get TaskswitchXP to work. The two .exe (application and configuration program) files are also available in a zip file; extract this and set the compatibility mode to XP. Then run the config program and select "low level keyboard hook method". And it works!
