He's on vacation. There is no backup. He hates helping people. As a consequence, they almost never ask him anything as they always get shit for it even when it is a completely reasonable question. I've seen this in person. He knows what he is doing just does not care. He has taken their(my cousin's) computers and given them to others to use. I know which are which and it's been almost a year.

There's the instance of the email server going down with only a single/broken/untested backup.

What was really interesting was two PST files with ~13GB total of email.

So, the IT guy was just a total A-hole, funny that's also quite common

Whenever I'm not on the receving end of it I find it ironic when the IT help forgets that their ultimate goal is to help.

I did not mean you in particular, but people who have friends help them in general, before taking the computer to an IT specialist.. It happened all the time when I worked in computer repair. Some genius friend tried helping them, yet could not make it work, so now we had to I know people on this board are very computer savvy

I have been stressed between being overwhelmed with helpdesk/pcs duties at work(inlcuding getting paged 3AM for a password reset that could have been done at 11PM or earlier), helping my cousin(inlcuding running a recovery for files that she deleted on purpose and had not run her backup in 11 months), DSL trouble at home (They're finally sending me a replacement modem after a month and a half.), and other things.

I was just "attempting" to be silly for stress relief. That is all.

At work we fear the "computer knowledgeable friend"

Mostley because they seem to masters of avoiding the wrath of the owners of their screwups

Gorram Google toolbar. I know I uninstalled and reinstalled it at some point back when this started.
