okay i don't quite know how it's happened but i appear to have 5 seperate devices sharing IRQ 11 (not counting the pci steering). The comp is still stable and i don't want to fix it but i was wondering if anyone knows why windows wants to put them all at the same spot? I only had four devices on 11 the other day, i have just installed dx7a so maybe that's why i have a usb controller appearing even though it's disabled in bios. When are we going going to get computers that can have more than 15 irq? and when are we going to get more than seven available slots for things in motherboards. I only have one left and i want to put a tv card and a network card in there as well as a udma 66 controller. sorry rambling on.

Let's see. Hmm, you can get rid of the SB16 Emulation, you're probably not using that. Also, do you need both IDE controllers? Actually, do you need both SCSI controllers, too? You can probably get rid of the Hollywood card, it isn't doing much besides degrading your picture quality. Disable the USB in the device manager.

Also, what the heck is a modem enumerator? Is that something for voice modems? A modem should really only need one interrupt.

That should be more than a start.

Yeah, one for the hard drive and one for the DVD.

Yeah, one for the CD ROM drives and another for the SCSI Scanner that has a really shitty connection on it that doesn't mate up with the pci scsi card. I could buy a different cable for it but as the scanner was only 50 pounds and a cable to hook it up would be 25 i cant justify the cost.

I am not using the pass thru cable so my picture quality on the monitor is unaffected. the dvd playback is better than the G400 especially when converting ntsc to pal. And of course i can still surf and watch dvd on the tv without stutters or jumps in the playback.

I have disabled this thru the bios but i don't like the disable in this hardware thing in windows.

You'll have to ask diamond MM about that i have no idea!!

the config has now changed thou. I have been fiddling with stuff (i know i said i didnt care but then again i could have been lying )

I had to move the live and the hollywood to the fourth and fifth slots so that i could change the irq in bios without affecting the g400 which i wanted to keep on 11. I had to move the modem and the scsi card to the centre slots and leave the slot adjacent to the g400 free as i put a fan on it and it takes up two slots now. I would have seperated the hollywood and the live but the second scsi card needed an irq all on it's own and would show as a conflict in windows if i didnt leave a high number irq free.

Maybe i will consider changing the older scsi for a better lead for the scanner so that i can get the pci scsi upto a higher irq. aparently this is supposed to speed things up but as i only run cd writing throu it on a 2x cdr do i need any more speed?

Looking better. However, the "disable in windows" bit works just fine. I had to do the same with my USB controller. And the Live's SB16 emulation? Are you still playing some old DOS games?

I'm with Wombat. If you're not using USB, disable it everywhere, including Windows.

If you're not playing DOS games, you really don't need Soundblaster Emulation. It hogs an entire IRQ and does you not a bit of good. (SB emulation should be disabled in both Windows and DOS. If you don't like the idea of disabling stuff in Windows, you're going to hate this.)

I'm buying the first sound board I see with the option of not installing Soundblaster emulation while installing the drivers. Now, after reinstalling Windows, I find myself disabling stuff I intend to use, just to make room for SB emulation. I then disable it and re-enable the stuff I disabled previously.

It's good to see your mysterious modem enumerator is sharing an IRQ with your modem.

j have found a way to get rid of the sb16 emulation without disabling in the windows thing. All you have to do is selct the sb16 properties from the system menu and then select 'allow lpt interupt sharing'. Then as quick as a flash the emulation sticks itself to whatever irq your printer has!

I have had to mess around some more with the way my bits are in their slots (oo er), It seems that there are not many things in my setup that like to share slots (slots 4 and 5 on my board share the same resoueces). I tried every vombination i could but no two things would happily coexist within slots 4 n5. Weird stuff would happen. The scsi would nolonger see the cd roms, the dvd card would work at all and then the system would hang, the live was disabled by windows cos it caused it to stop responding. mt system no looks like this:

Hey, if you go into the SB16 Emulation properties, called "LPT Interrupt Sharing", you can have it share IRQ7 with the printer.

I've had no problems doing that myself, as I'm still an avid DOS gamer.
