  • Memory Model Question: Please Help

A friend of mine had some odd hardware he was going to throw away so he gave it to me. I have this one thing, it looks like a memory module but I cant figure out what type, how big or if it is worth keeping and using. Maybe you guys can help me out. There are two chips on either side of it and the a smaller chip near the end on one side. This is what it says on one of the chips.

    Winbond
    W25P010AF-7
    627AB261855303ZB

The smaller chip on the end of one side says this

    Winbond
    W24M257AJ-15
    95261

    Thx for any help

I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's a 256 KB cache module for a Sager NP8680 notebook computer.

I have no clue. Actually, I don't know if that is its identity. I just matched up part numbers which pointed to that notebook.

Yup. I think that's what was know as a COASt (Cache On A Stick)(Really..that's what they're called ).

I have a few sittin in my closet myself from some old FIC pentium mobos. Lots of ppl would upgrade to the 512k, and those 256ks became throw-away items...

Some old motherboards have a cache module that looks like a DIMM. I have a P100 MB like that in my box O'junk right now. Does it have just one small cut-out on the pin side, unlike a DIMM which has two offset cutouts for alignment?
If so it is probably cache and unusable except in it's original MB.
