I know it is overkill (I don't have/need/want 5.1 speakers in the car)... But I might as well try to set everything correctly... At the moment the overall sound isn't as good as good as it was with my previous system, which had far less settings. It is just a thad off, so I'm now trying to optimize all settings in order to improve it.

I understand the meaning, but why express it in cm? Furthermore, a default value of 15 cm seems awfully low... To optimize it, do I just measure from speaker and enter that value?

      Yes.

They use cm because it is intuitive - if you could enter it in milliseconds, you'd have to calculate with the speed of sound.

The 15 cm seems a bit counterintuitive, but remember that the actual distance isn't important - the difference between distances is.

        Yes, of course...
Well, I now know how to set these things.

After that, I'll move to the SRS settings (seems more like matter of taste, rather than objective data, but the SRS website has been very helpful) and then the equalizer settings. I'll try to adopt the suggested Blaupunkt settings (2 bands) on the 13 bands of the Kenwood.

          Oh, one more thing...

There is the DTA setting (with the delays, p. 65), but also the position setting (p. 92). In the position setting, one again can enter distances to speakers. The Dutch text has a bit of a double interpretation: are these distances added to the distances in DTA setting, or do they override them?

As I see it, that setting is there only to select the seat you're optimizing for. I'm sorry I'm at work and can't put too much time into this now. It does seem a bit confusing.

No problem, you've helped me a lot!

edit: it gives the impression the values are added up (in the text), I'll check if negative values are allowed. If this is the case, they obviously are added.

It doesn't allow negative values, but they are added up.

As I now don't have time to go find a pair of rear speakers, I'll have to postpone adjusting everything. Most difficult part will no doubt be the equalizer (seperate front/rear !). To bad there is no proper way of objectively finding the right compensation for absorbed frequencies.
